The fifth and latest installment of the Underworld franchise battles Lycans versus Vampires once again. Underworld: Blood Wars returns since the 2012 Underworld: Awakenings with the story about a Vampire hitwoman Selene (Kate Beckinsale) fending off the Lycan pack while also facing the Vampire congregate that betrayed here. With the help of Thomas (Charles Dance) and his son, David (Theo James), she must end the never-ending fight between Lycans and Vampires.
Personally, it is apparent the Underworld franchise is becoming tired. Kate Beckinsale darts around the screen in a black PVC suit, blasting off fully automatic machine guns and throwing punches and kicks at the same time. Meanwhile, the Lycans are shown briefly in a computer-generated image up close, yet leaping in great bounds like frogs. Then there is the dark, blue-filtered. One scene was repeated for a later scene. Enough of making another movie where vampires are the good guys and werewolves are the bad guys.
I like to think Underworld has finally put the stake through the heart and a silver bullet through the head of its series. The ending of Blood Wars may have left the door wide open for another Underworld installment. Hopefully, the next installment is set for a DVD/Blu-ray or online only release, if that happens.
